The Sox were relentless in beating the Rays in four games in the ALDS,moncler outlet, making fewer key mistakes and playing with swagger, like a team of destiny. . . . The Tigers never seemed pressured in the AL Central even though the Indians made it close by the end. Manager Jim Leyland’s team went to Game 5 against the A’s, but after an up-and-down season RH Justin Verlander came up big in the finale to beat rookie sensation RH Sonny Gray, backed by a two-run homer from a hobbled 3B Miguel Cabrera. STARTERS: The return of Farrell, the team’s former pitching coach from 2007-10, has revitalized LH Jon Lester and RH Clay Buchholz, while the return to health and form of RH John Lackey could not have been predicted. The Sox reached out for RH Jake Peavy from the White Sox, bumping Canadian RH Ryan Dempster to the pen. . . . It’s hard to argue with the Tigers’ rotation with Cy Young shoo-in RH Max Scherzer, former Cy guy Verlander, moncler down jackets, RH #file_links[D:\keywords11.txt,1,S] Anibal Sanchez and RH Doug Fister. They all need to go deep into games with a lead, a tough task against a patient/aggressive #file_links[D:\keywords12.txt,moncler on sale,1,S] Bosox lineup. These are the AL’s deepest rotations. EDGE: Tigers BULLPEN: The Sox’s seemingly untouchable CL Koji Uehara proved human after all when he gave up a walkoff homer to C Jose Lobaton in Game 3 of the ALDS, but rebounded for a four-out save in Game 4. His season numbers and pinpoint control are intimidating. Setup men LH Craig Breslow and RH Junichi Tazawa are solid. . . . The Tigers’ bullpen, on the other hand, is a mess. The pool is so shallow that Game 1 starter Scherzer was called upon for the biggest moment in relief in Game 4, escaping a bases-loaded jam with nobody out. The Tigers will always stay with their starters a few batters too long because of lack of faith in their middle relievers. They lean heavily on CL Joaquin Benoit plus setup men LH Drew Smyly and RH Al Albuquerque. Leyland’s bullpen Achilles heel runs all the way up to mid-calf. EDGE: Red SoxLINEUP: The Sox are ever intimidating with a bat in their hands. They worked the Rays for 626 pitches in 34 innings (18.4 per inning). Stepping up has been RF Shane Victorino, batting second in a deep and talented lineup led by 2B Dustin Pedroia, DH David Ortiz, 1B Mike Napoli and CF Jacoby Ellsbury. The Sox are relentless for nine innings and confident even when trailing. . . . The Tigers boast the best hitter in baseball in Cabrera, but he is operating on one good leg. His homer in Game 5 was the difference in the series, but his power numbers have faded with his injury. 1B Prince Fielder has become the highest paid singles hitter in baseball. The Tigers’ hottest hitters are DH Victor Martinez and SS Jhonny Peralta, who returned from suspension with the biggest hit vs. the A’s, a game-tying three-run homer in Game 4. EDGE: Red SoxINTANGIBLES: The Red Sox and Tigers have a great tradition in the post-season and are the best teams in the AL in a short series. Both managers are confident and experienced. Bot #file_links[D:\keywords15.txt,1,S] h teams have players who have been through the pressure. The di #file_links[D:\keywords13.txt,1,S] fference in the ALCS may be Fenway Park, Cabrera’s legs, the bullpens — and the beards. EDGE: Red SoxPICK TO WIN: Red Sox in six
