Anna Cheep ugg boots Burke slams Labor's frontbench carve
Video settings Please Log in to update your video settings Video settings Please Log in to update your video settings Anna Burke slams Labor factions Outgoing Speaker Anna Burke has voiced her frustrations over Labor factions rewarding the so called "faceless men" over allegiances rather than political merit. PT1M23S http://www.smh.com.au/action/externalEmbeddedPlayer?id=d-2vjhb October 15, 2013 Autoplay OnOff Video feedback Video settings Outgoing speaker Anna Burke has publicly attacked new Labor leader Bill Shorten, saying his frontbench feels like it was carved up by a "couple of blokes". The attack is especially bruising for Mr Shorten, given he has styled himself as a progressive visionary and condemned Prime Minister Tony Abbott for having only one woman in his cabinet. Outgoing speaker Anna Burke says Mr Shorten's frontbench selection involved "a couple of blokes sitting around a room carving up the spoils". Photo: Andrew Meares Ms Burke, who missed out on being chief opposition whip, took to the media on Monday to condemn the factional selection process. When the Victorian MP left Labor's caucus meeting, she was filmed gesticulating, and was visibly upset. She says she was told not to challenge for the position she wanted but she defied her party's orders. A #file_links[D:\keywords13.txt,1,S] dvertisement Mr Shorten's frontbench selection involved "a couple of blokes sitting around a room carving up the spoils and then telling everybody else what the outcome's going to be", Ms Burke said on Monday night. "It was quite frustrating when it was again just all within the leader's pick," Ms Burke told ABC's Lateline program, hours after writing a swingeing opinion piece for the Guardian Australia. "Yes I'm bitter and twisted at this point in time, I'll be brutally honest." Mr Shorten on Monday unveiled a 30-member frontbench, with Tanya Plibersek as his deputy and featuring 10 other women. Labor collea #file_links[D:\keywords15.txt,1,S] gue Louise Pratt, who is fighting to hold onto her Senate seat in WA with a recount currently underway, backed Ms Burke on Tuesday. "I think Anna has a good point to make," Senator Pratt said. "I find it sometimes frustrating as one of those people that's trying to break through and make a greater contribution." Factional battles pushed Senator Pratt into her precarious position on the WA Senate ticket. She said the factions "can play a useful role but Labor needed to examine its factional processes and "work out where the future lies". Ms Plibersek went on radio on Tuesday morning to defend Mr Shorten, saying she could understand Ms Burke's disappointment about the selection process, cheap ugg, but that it was not her experience. "[Ms Burke] has missed out on a frontbench position so I suppose you have to understand that she's speaking from a place of disappointment," Ms Plibersek told ABC radio. "Anna's criticism that this is about blokes looking after themselves I don't think is borne out in the fact that we've got 11 women on our frontbench." Mr Shorten's new team is the result of heavy factional manoeuvring, with Labor's right and left groupings allocating positions. Of the 11 women, the Right faction provided just three - and none from Victoria. Portfolio responsibilities will be announced on Friday. Mr Shorten will be joined in the leadership group by Ms Plibersek and Penny Wong as Senate leader. Right faction warrior Stephen Conroy is Senate deputy leader. Talented women missed out on senior roles, with rising star and proven performer Kate Lundy punished for breaking ranks with the Left faction to support Mr #file_links[D:\keywords14.txt,1,S] Shorten rather than Anthony Albanese in last week's caucus ballot. NSW MP Laurie Ferguson took to Twitter on Monday to condemn the punishment of Senator Lundy for breaking ranks. "Magnificent effort by Kate Lundy in Multiculturalism," he wrote. "Respected and loved in the nations [sic] Settlement communities. Sad collateral payback." In a statement Senator Lundy said on Tuesday she was "proud to contribute to an effective Labor opposition" and hold the government to account. She congratulated ACT MP Andrew Leigh on becoming a shadow minister. Among the surprises in Monday's announcementwas the retention of right-wing South Australian senator Don Farrell on the frontbench. He lost his Senate spot at the election and will exit Parliament in July next year. Ms Burke complained that most of the deals were done before she "even had a chance to know what was going on". "We said to the Australian Labor Party membership, 'we will have a democratic process to elect the leader' and the same time I was told inside caucus 'don't rock the boat, don't have a vote'.'' Thanks Anna,I think it is great you have stood up and said what you think and are being honest.I think you did a great job under extremely trying circumstances as the spaeker and have been a wonderful MP. Commenter Location Date and time October 15,cheap uggs, 2013, 8:33AM You have no future in the Labor party unless you're a former union rep who spends a decade or so #file_links[D:\keywords11.txt,1,S] doing exactly as you're told by a factional #file_links[D:\keywords12.txt,1,S] warlord, uggs, irrespective of your conscience. Commenter Gatsby Location Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:03AM Well it looks like everything old is new again. Or as Tim Finn almost sang, ugg outlet, there s a faction too much friction .Shorten rewarded for backstabbing, Conroy and Wong rewarded for years of failure, troops on the warpath, faceless men shuffling the deck chairs and the party disunited. But shhh don t mention the election or Julia or Kevin. Two things are clear though Anna Burke deserved promotion and Shorten needs to have a chat with Bob Carr. Is this moving forward, or is it a new way . oh gosh I m lost. Commenter Hacka Location Canberra Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:06AM Anna Burke deserved better and it's a shame that she did not get it.Sadly, all her complaint does is unleash the usual shills complaining about Labor factions and ignoring the deep factions and divisions in the Coalition.Just look down the names of the commenters below. All the usual cast who have nothing to say if they can't say something bad about Labor. Commenter Location Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:09AM Yet Penny Wong remains.Good performer of spin and hype, hopeless finance minister.Ahhh Labor Commenter J Walker Location Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:12AM The unhappy Labor apparatchiks are ready for action again and knife wielding Bill s friends are about to shorten his glory. Commenter John Location Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:18AM Even a redneck like me admired your contribution during the forgettable Rudd/Gillard regimes. The best thing to do Anna is jump ship and embrace a bit of reality. The same reality three quarters of your fellow Australian's embraced on September 7 Commenter nemises Location corio Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:23AM JBNice try JB with the 'look over there and under here' line. Still looking 'under here' for all the usual suspects you refer to, but are somehow missing. Commenter $keptic Location Melbourne Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:31AM It's easy for Burke to slam the other gender as the cause of her departure from the Speaker role or other position of authority, but it's too hard for her to accept that her failure to regularly brush her hair is the real reason! Just brush it aside, Anna, and move forward. You have the ability, we have the technology. Commenter The Commentator Location Hawks Nest Date and time October 15, 2013, 9:40AM
