In the other semi, Roger Federer tries to serve his way past ... ... Novak Djokovic. But the young Serb prevents the dream Federer-Nadal matchup with a thrilling five-set victory. Vera Zvonareva and Kim Clijsters battle in the 2010 U.S. Open women's final ... ... and Clijsters dismisses Zvonareva in straight sets ... ... to repeat as U.S. Open champ, and win her third Open overall. Anna Wintour joins R-Fed's wife Mirka in the friends and family box. Time to say goodbye! Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki waves farewell to the fans at the U.S. Open after losing her Friday semifinal ... ... to Vera Zvonareva in straight sets. It's a frustrating day on the Big Apple hard courts for Wozniacki. The other semifinal features the last American in the tournament, Venus Williams ... ... battling the defending champion Kim Clijsters. With Serena looking on (when she's not staring at her phone), Clijsters sends Venus packing. Second-seeded Roger Federer overpowers No. 5 Robin Soderling with a serve even stronger than the wind in a U.S. Open quarterfinal match at Arthur Ashe Stadium Wednesday night ... ... Federer now will meet Novak Djokovic, the No. 3 seed, in the semifinals for the third consecutive year. Earlier Wednesday, Djokovic crushed the hopes of the overmatched - but athletic - Gael Monfils, a Frenchman with a knack for entertaining the crowd. While women's top seed Caroline Wozniacki disposed of Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets, both players had to contend with a blistering wind. Occasionally, Wozniacki's hair lost the battle. It's not officially a U.S. Open until a couple Baldwins show up. The day wasn't as kind to Scotland's Andy Murray (pictured) who seemed gimpy and irate in an upset to unheralded Stanislas Wawrinka in 4 sets. Rafael Nadal shows why he's the most dominant player in men's tennis, making short work of Gilles Simon in straight sets Sunday. American Sam Querrey advanced past the third round... ...but fellow American John Isner didn't, falling to Mikhail Youzhny at Arthur Ashe Stadium Sunday... ...despite having actor Ethan Hawke in the stands cheering him on. Kim Clijsters goes the extra effort to return a shot by Kim Ana Ivanovic on route to her win Sunday. Jelena Jankovic couldn't weather the strong post-Hurricane Earl winds that blew through Arthur Ashe Stadium Saturday... ...but her opponent, Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, had no trouble breezing through a 6-2, 7-6 (1) win in the day's biggest upset. Roger Federer had no problem with the wind, cruising through a three-set victory over 109th-ranked Paul-Henri Mathieu. The best action during the night match between Novak Djokovic and Philipp Petzschner takes place in the upper deck of Arthur Ashe Stadium. During the eighth game of the first set that the fight breaks out in the nosebleeds. A fan who captures the scene on video tells the News that a woman slaps a younger man after a lengthly argument. An elderly man is pushed over a row of the seats and the brawl escalates from there. The young man at the heart of the fight is escorted out of the stadium, but not before giving a two-finger salute to the crowd. And to think it started out as a peaceful night in Queens. Plenty of star power on hand at Arthur Ashe Stadium Wednesday night to cheer on Andy Roddick in the second round, including John Legend ... ... and Kanye West. But Roddick - the highest seeded American in the men's draw - can't send the stars home happy. Serving to stay in the third, Roddick is called for a foot fault on his first serve. Janko Tipsarevic celebrates the upset as he wins the final three sets to stun Roddick, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic isn't sitting down on the job ... ... she's just taking a little break while dominating China's Zheng Jie in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Fan favorite Maria Sharapova, the 2006 U.S. Open champion, makes her first appearance at the '10 tourn billet mirror ament as she faces Jarmila Groth in first-round action. Sharapova fights off an ugly start to the match before beating Groth, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Fan favorite James Blake needs a wild card just to get into the tournament, but he starts strong with a straight-sets victory over Kristof Vliegen on the Louis Armstrong Stadium court. Novak Djokovic has a much tougher time disposing of fellow Serbian Viktor Troicki, who gives the third-ranked favorite a run for his money ... ... in the end, Djokovic takes it 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Djokovic goes airborne after smashing a volley straight at Troicki. This female fan cheers on Djokovic from the stands at Flushing Meadows. The final grand slam tennis tournament of the season returns to New York on a picture perfect day in the Big Apple. While the action gets going in the morning, the highlight of the opening day is always the first night session in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Kicking off the night session is Venus Williams, back from a two-month layoff, who is able to enjoy the atmosphere in Queens ... ... thanks to an easy night of work as she has little trouble with Roberta Vinci of Italy, 6-4, 6-1. That brings five-time Open champ Roger Federer to the National Tennis Center's showcase court. It's a straight-set romp for the Swiss star who dazzles the crowd with a stunning display of athleticism ... ... as he fires a winner from between his legs as he sends Brian Dabul packing with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory. International soccer star Thierry Henry, currently playing in New York with the Red Bulls, and new Knick Ronny Turiaf enjoy the action at Arthur Ashe Stadium. But before the sun set over Manhattan, plenty of big names took to the Flushing courts. Top U.S. hope - armed with his blistering serve - Andy Roddick starts strong ... ... beating Stephane Robert of France 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round - on his 28th birthday. Defending women's champion Kim Clijsters also cruises, beating Greta Arn of Hungary 6-0, 7-5. Russia's Nikolay Davydenko shows top form in beating American Michael Russell, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. Francesca Schiavone of Italy serves up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ayumi Morita of Japan. Russia's Elena Dementieva is unhappy with this call, but she was happy with the result: a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Olga Govortsova of Belarus. Young American Melanie Oudin, the surprise 2009 Open quarterfinalist, defeats Olga S adjustable Lever avchuk of Ukraine 6-3, 6-0. Oudin reeled off 20 consecutive points during her victory.
